Environmental, Renewable Energy, Social and Governmental Areas of Expertise
Microgrids, Nanogrids & Virtual Power Plants
These topics have been the prime focus of my wirting and consulting workover the last decade. My work in this field has encompassed everything from writing, editing, strategic advice, radio and television appearances, public speaking and even entertainment services. Most of my work samples featured on this website address these topics.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Most of this work to date has involved corporations that seek to gain competitive advantage by exceeding environmental mandates and regulations in the area of energy, air quality, rainforest preservation, water management and toxic waste management. I have served as Associate Editor of The Journal of Corporate Environmental Strategy, a quarterly journal distributed internationally about trends in corporate environmental management.
Empowering Local Governments
I have served as an energy policy consultant and print media specialist for Local Government Commission, a non-profit organization whose membership includes over 1,000 progressive local elected officials and local government staff involved with issues such as developing sustainable communities, community-wide energy efficiency planning, and the promotion of solar photovoltaics and other cleaner sources of power. My duties included: the writing of a regular column on energy issues of importance to local governments for Currents, a bi-monthly newsletter, preparation of background materials for workshops and conferences, and serving as moderator and host of public education events, including "Solar Sebastpol" and "Stinson Solar Sunday." Municipal utilities and rural cooperatives are also becoming increasingly active within the world of microgrids.
My writing career began as a political reformist, working for non-profit organizations such as Common Cause and Consumers Union. My work as an independent journalist was supported by the Center for Investigative Reporting, Project for investigate Reporting on Money and Politics, Fund for Investigative Journalism, and the Los Angeles Times.
